Tracey Capen compared the Sony Alpha A700 with Panasonic Lumix DMC-L10k, Samsung GX-10 and Canon EOS 30D.
Image bracketing options in the A700 are extensive: In addition to the usual automatic exposure bracketing, it has white balance, flash bracketing with one shot, and two levels of dynamic-range bracketing. This latter feature is useful in scenes with extremely high contrast. In a test shot that included the interior of a room and a window with a bright outdoor scene, turning up the dynamic range greatly improved shadow detail, though with a slight overexposure of the highlights.
My informal test shots with the A700 were mostly up to expectations. I was impressed with their overall sharpness, especially in macro (close-up) images. In photos with deep shadow and bright highlights, the A700 delivered significantly more shadow detail than did the Panasonic Lumix DMC-L10K, the Samsung GX-10, or my Canon 30D reference camera. Color balance seemed a bit erratic, though.

Ben Long from Macworld reviewed the Sony Alpha DSLR-A700, the only semi professional level dSLR from Sony, and gave it a 3.5/5 rating. He praises the A700 with great build quality; good image quality; fast performance; beautiful LCD screen.
What Ben is not so pleased with the A700 are no status LCD; no live view; cumbersome button placement; in-viewfinder status display doesn’t show ISO; rear LCD screen turns on at inappropriate times.
The DSLR-A700 is well made and sturdy; like the Olympus E-3 that it competes with, it offers weather sealing that helps it withstand dust and moisture. The handgrip has good moldings that make for a firm grip and easy handling.

David Pogue of NYtimes spent some time with Sony Alpha DSLR-A300. He commented mostly about is live view feature and also mentioned that using the A300 can feel a lot like using a compact camera. That’s precisely what Sony was hoping; it’s aiming this 10-megapixel model ($763 with starter 4X zoom lens) at people who are graduating from pocket cameras to something more serious.

Kiklop of dyxum talks about the new Sony Alpha DS:R-A350. He tested the camera with a number of lenses, keeps on updating the thread and. He also mentioned about the built of the new Sony DSLR-A350.
Some of his quotes:
A comparison of Sony Alpha DSLR-A700 and DSLR-A350:
a350 ISN’T anything like a700; if you ever wondered why should one pay for a700 if he can get a350 for less money and greater resolution sensor then rest assured that a700 outperforms this entry model in almost every aspect: ergonomics, response and capabilities are way better on a700.
The price difference is IMHO very adequate .. a350 seems very capable camera for the money but it is evident that Sony made some efforts in not compromising a700 sales.
The DSLR-A350 built:
Some questions were made about quality (durability) of the provided swivel LCD screen. My impression is that this shouldn’t be of too much concern since the build quality seems quite solid for an entry level model.
